Overview
Our camps offer a unique and fun experience for your child!
Part of Maitera’s mission is to connect enthusiastic and future martial arts with high quality gyms in San Diego. We have partnered with 3 different gyms to host our camps.
Each camp features engaging, theme-based games and activities designed to reinforce critical life skills, leadership qualities, and physical development. Students have the unique opportunity to train with exclusive guest instructors and accomplished athletes, who offer specialized expertise to enrich the learning experience.
Beyond physical techniques, our camp nurtures social development as children form new friendships through collaborative activities and shared challenges. Our comprehensive curriculum balances dynamic physical training with mindfulness practices, including age-appropriate body and spatial awareness exercises, skills to calm the nervous system and focus on emotional regulation.

Activities
-
Martial arts will be at the center of our physical practices in our Pokémon, Avatar, Minecraft and Hero Camps. Martial arts allow students to hone motor skills, balance, agility, hand-eye coordination, flexibility, and somatic and spatial awareness. Students will focus on jiu-jitsu, wrestling, self-defense, and kickboxing.
-
Our camps challenge students with complex, open-ended problems that encourage both proactive and reactive problem-solving skills.
We provide a supportive environment where your child can explore self-expression through movement, collaborative crafts, team-building games, and individual art projects.
-
Maitera’s partnership with high-level martial artists and teachers means that we get to host these instructors at camp. Some of our past partnerships has been with Sumo Worlds Silver Medalist JJ Jones, Olympic Karate athlete Sakura Kokumai, and 4x Muay Thai Champion Ashley Smallwood.
-
We use peer and community connections, ecological learning approach, and student-led tactics. Our camps reflect the belief that learning happens through experience, with teachers creating a conducive environment for learning that encourages students to develop questions to deepen newfound logic and adapt to the task at hand. Coaches are committed to structuring learning around the individual, recognizing that greatness looks different in every student.
