Building Better Learners

One Student at a Time

Learn how we blend martial arts with evidence-based child development

The Maitera Method

is how we teach martial arts using the latest research on how kids learn best. Our approach focuses on three important areas of growth while following six key teaching principles.

We focus on

Brain Skills

We help students get better at focusing, remembering instructions, and controlling their actions. Through martial arts practice, kids develop stronger attention spans and self-control that helps them in school and life.

Social-Emotional Growth

We teach more than kicks and punches - we help students understand their feelings, get along with others, and solve problems peacefully. These life skills help kids succeed both in school and in their relationships.

Supporting All Learners

Every student learns differently, and we see that as a good thing. We use different teaching methods, clear visual signals, and individual pacing so students with ADHD, autism, and other learning differences can succeed right alongside their classmates.

Our principles

Validate & Listen

We respect each child's feelings and experiences while helping them learn better social skills. We always listen first before we teach.

Engage

We give students the tools to discover how they learn best. We help them get curious and excited about learning martial arts and important life skills.

Build Skills

We know that small daily habits become big life behaviors. We help students build a strong foundation so they can succeed.

Play

Play is how kids learn best. We use games, fun characters, and challenges to get kids excited while they practice new techniques in a positive way.

Affirm

We celebrate when students do something right and support them when they're having a tough time.

Collaborate

We work with students and parents to solve problems together. We help students build confidence to speak up for their needs, share ideas, listen to others, and work as a team.

How We Prepare Our Team

All Maitera coaches learn these proven teaching methods before they start teaching students.

Behavioral Approaches

Using learning theories, coaches learn how to encourage good behaviors through positive rewards and help students stop negative behaviors.

Identity v. Behavior

Our coaches learn how to separate what students do from who they are.

Game-Led Learning

A teaching method that helps students learn skills naturally through games. This puts the student first! In our programs, this looks like play with clear goals.

Role Play

Our coaches practice different classroom situations to build their management skills before they work with real students.

CPR & First Aid Certified

All of our coaches have CPR and First Aid training, and they put safety first in everything we do!

Active Partnership

We work closely with students, families, and community members to make our programs fit each person's needs. We also ask for feedback to make our programs even better!
